Jay Pinak Oza was born in the city of Vadodara, Gujarat, India where he was raised. He earned his B.A. in Fine Art majoring in art history and aesthetics from Maharaja Sayajirao University in 2006. His journey in the Indian film industry began as a production assistant on the sets of the film Rang De Basanti (2005). After graduating from university he worked as an assistant director on various Hindi films where he discovered his interest in cinematography. This led him to pursue film studies at the Prague Film School in 2008. After that he has created a praiseworthy body of work in the Indian independent film & television industry as a cinematographer. He is known for his cinematography on TV Series: The Dewarists (2011), Bring On The Night (2012), 24: India (2013) and a broad range of ad-films. He has won the Indian Telly Award and 14th Indian Television Academy Award in 2014 for his cinematography on the TV series 24: India. Jay has also had the opportunity to learn from several members of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) like Dariusz Wolski, Kramer Morgenthau & Richard Crudo during the fall 2014 ASC master class.
